Every reputable Newfie site will caution you - do not get a Newfie unless you are absolutely sure you can take care of them properly. These dogs are huge, they are messy, their hair sheds everywhere, and most likely, they will drool quite a bit. But most importantly, they need lot's of attention - this is not the type of dog you can just leave outside. They need people, they need you.
Be prepared for some expenses as well - the bigger the dog, the bigger the vet bills will be. Everything they need is super-size, including medications, food, and toys. Newfies are terribly sensitive as well - don't yell at them! While they want you to be in charge, they respond best to gentle guidance and positive reinforcement. If you treat them right, you will be rewarded with the sweetest, most loving dog you will ever own. I've found the most caring, informative, intelligent and fun-loving connections with other Newfoundland dog owners via instagram - if you own a Newfie and want to share the joys, receive enormous support and find some friends, see for yourself! |
